  • Paradox Walnut saved in SE Portland
    Thanks to cooperation from the developer, the city and citizen activists, a significant tree was saved at Paradox 50 in SE Portland. This 100+ year old Paradox Walnut was slated for removal before neighborhood activists and arborists approached developer Steve Melkerson. Steve altered his plans to save the tree and provide fewer units in this development.

    It's cooler in the shade - 20 to 50 degrees cooler when measuring the surface temperature on cars. http://www.friendsoftrees.org We measured the surface temperature of cars parked half in the sun and half in the shade with an Infrared Thermometer. We all like to park in the shade of a tree - but clearly we need to plant more trees.
