In January, the United States Tennis Association opened its official state-of-the-art facility in Lake Nona, Florida. It is now the new home of American Tennis and UCF Tennis.
No one likes to feel left out on Valentine’s Day and the last place you want to spend the day is in a hospital. So, UCF nursing students delivered teddy bears to children admitted to local hospitals to help brighten their day this week. By the end of the week, 225 children will receive a super soft bear wearing UCF nursing scrubs. The goal is to make the day just a little better for each one.
In efforts to build a strong community, UCF hosted the first-ever Gather Luncheon where more than 550 students were served a free three-course meal and were encouraged to sit together and meet new people to ultimately strengthen the Knights community.

The “Hearts for the Homeless Orlando” movement was born when the three honors students learned that hypertension is one of the leading causes of death among homeless people. High blood pressure and its related health problems are one reason that, on average, the lives of homeless people end 30 years sooner than the general population. Knights Helping Knights Pantry was founded in 2009 by UCF students who sought to help fellow Knights facing financial difficulties, and to make sure students never needed to choose between buying textbooks or food. M.J. Soileau, former VP for Research at UCF was inducted into the Florida Inventors Hall of Fame on September 16, 2016. Soileau was the first director of the internationally recognized Center for Research and Education in Optics and Lasers (CREOL) at UCF and is an inventor on optic patents that contributed to the advancement of high-energy laser optics.
